THE pests of roses usually they are aphids, scale insects, cetonias and the red spider. To the problems they cause can be added mold and mildew (fumaggini) caused by too much humidity or poor ventilation. If the roses are in pots, it is in fact essential to ventilate the environment well and avoid stagnation of air.

The most natural remedy against the pests of roses and in particular against aphids is the use of antagonistic predatory insects. The most common are the seven-point ladybug, which can devour up to one hundred aphids a day and the hoverflies, which eat up to six hundred aphids every day during the development of aphids.

Recognize the most common pests of roses it's pretty easy. Aphids, which are the most widespread problem, suck the most tender parts of the plant by making the leaves curl on themselves and reproduce in colonies until they completely cover the stems and the undersides of the leaves, from which it can also color a sort of honeydew sticky.

Often the cause of aphids is linked to errors in fertilization, so it is better to avoid nitrogen fertilizers and spray nettle macerate on young shoots. Infested leaves should be cleaned with a damp cotton swab and if the infestation is serious they should be pruned.

Ants can be an ally of the pests of roses, especially in the case of aphids that the ants raise to extract their sugary secretions. It is therefore necessary to remove the ants with natural systems and, if necessary, lift the pots from the ground with shims.

The cochineal (cottony or brown, but there are other types) is a parasite typical of rosebushes ancient, especially where the climate is hot and humid, and can be removed by brushing the infested branches and cleaning them with a cotton ball soaked in denatured alcohol. Overly affected branches should be pruned.

In the case of cetonia and the red spider, which are usually identified with the naked eye, it is possible and advisable to proceed with manual removal.
